The bright minds of Cozine Elementary School plus two graduates from our Readers in Training program share stories on why reading is important to them. Spread the Word Nevada is a children’s literacy nonprofit, 501 (C)(3) corporation, dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of Nevada's children in need. Kids to Kids - Spread the Word Nevada's Flagship Program
Kids to Kids is the heart of Spread the Word Nevada, our flagship program that puts the power of reading directly into the hands of children. Every month, students in our partner schools get to pick a brand-new book to call their own. Just imagine the spark in a child’s eyes when they find a story that speaks to them. That simple moment of choice can light a lifelong fire for reading, inspiring curiosity, confidence, and independence. But here's the hard truth: Nevada is facing a literacy crisis. Right now, one in three third graders isn’t reading at a third-grade level. And we all know the saying: By third grade, you should be reading to learn, not still learning to read. There’s hope, though—and real progress. According to a study by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, schools that receive Spread the Word Nevada’s services have seen a 23.4% jump in students reading at a proficient level. That’s the power of putting books in kids’ hands. Every single month, we distribute 70,000 books to children who need them most. Since 2001, we’ve reached over 1.5 million students. We're proud of the impact we’ve made, but we’re not done yet. Thousands of children across Nevada still don’t have access to the books and encouragement they deserve. They’re waiting. They’re counting on us. You can help. Give the gift of reading by supporting Spread the Word Nevada. https://spreadthewordnevada.org/get-involved/donate-today/ Together, we can change lives—one book, one child, one month at a time.

Become a Monthly Donor
Every child deserves the gift of literacy. Yet, for many children in the state of Nevada, access to books remains out of reach and children who are unable to read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. They deserve better. Nevada deserves better. There’s an easy way you can play a vital role in changing a child’s life - Become a monthly donor with Spread the Word Nevada. Your monthly donation of just $20 provides 10 beautiful books to local children in our own community. Even small contributions add up to create a lasting impact. In addition to reoccurring book distributions to over 70 schools across the Clark, Washoe, and Elko County, Spread the Word Nevada hosts family read-along events, provides one-on-one mentoring with struggling readers, and even trains our young readers aged birth-to-five. Your donation will help us to provide these consistent services to children in need. Together, we can change lives, one book at a time.
